Co-founded by Mark Escott in 2014, School for Inspiring Talents was established to meet the needs of children slipping through the net of mainstream schools. Our innovative therapeutic approach to education has enabled us to support a growing number of young people, and their families, who have had difficult childhood experiences.
Based across two sites in South Devon, School for Inspiring Talents was the first school in the UK to be awarded the Trauma and Mental Health Informed Schools Award by Trauma Informed Schools (TIS) UK.
As a trauma informed school, our mental health approach to education and wellbeing provides a measurable evidence base of impact; training staff to support vulnerable children through therapeutic conversations, and working with parents to support mentally healthy cultures at home.
Our experience working with children has shown us that the current education provision does not always meet the needs of those who struggle to fit into mainstream education. It’s also something we hear again and again from the families we work with.
We understand that difficult childhood experiences are a major factor in limiting a child’s educational, emotional, and social development. We provide a positive, nurturing, school environment that supports students to overcome their barriers to learning.
We offer full and part-time placements for children who are struggling in mainstream education. Children may be referred by the Local Education Authority (LEA) or by their school.
Following an assessment by our Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), we create a tailored learning and support programme and work with students and their families to best support their social, emotional, and educational needs. It is this individual experience, combined with a nurturing and caring environment that enables our students to develop both personally and academically.
School for Inspiring Talents is an independent school providing therapeutic education for children who have experienced challenging life experiences. All students have an Education Health and Care Plan with Social, Emotional and Mental Health as the primary need.
New students can join us in years 1-7 and are placed by Local Authorities through their commissioning process.
